Sneak Peak with Matt Kelly of Fit For Abuse, Dive, Get High, Hatchetface, Hammer and the Nails, and The Chopsticks..

I picture Club 490 shows in the 90's exactly like the Dive reunion a few years ago in the sense that people moshed with Bruins jerseys on. Am I completely wrong or spot on? If I am wrong like I'm sure that I am, what were they like? i know thats such a vague question.

*** It is true, they did. There was a gig on March 13, 1991 featuring Only Living Witness(Kevin Stevenson era thrashy stuff), Democracide, and Common Sense(me and Rheault's pre-Dive band). Because the singer of Democracide had a Bruins jersey on, our bass player No Dice said something to the effect of, "Oh, major yo! Democracide are the friggin' Bruins Masters!!" So from then on they were the Bruins masters until I had a Bruins snare drum made, which(much to their chagrin I'm sure) dethroned Democracide as said Bruins Masters. Either way, from my perspective it seemed the Hardcore/Bruins diaspora was pretty big back then with Slapshot in full swing and all that.

490 "pits" were as some 'zine writer wrote, "like stumbling into a swordfight"-- and I believe he meant literally as this was before the time that anything vaguely masculine was considered latently homoerotic. The shows were pretty fucking intense then. You'd have 440(capacity) kids in there going completely fucking apeshit to local bands like Bound, Dive, etc. Lotta "frantic fringe", metalheads playing air guitar, drums, etc., behind the pit area, and we took great joy in pummeling those dudes, as there was a pretty big divide between the "heavy metal" dudes and the HC kids/punks/skinheads. We got along with the death/black metal kids, but the "fresh fly muthas" as we called them would just get in there and start doing that thing that looks like a little kid playing with toy dumptrucks where he just bashes them together(we literally called this push-pit "playing trucks"). So you just grabbed the kid by the hair and started bashing him. Nine out of ten times, the dudes loved it. "Doood, I fuckin' love PITTIN'!" ***

*** He needs a backup bass and is probably really bummed that those Lovely Lads shirts have the word "firm" on them. However, on an unrelated note, he has good taste in jackets. ***

***Yeah, he threw a time in his Fitchburg apartment, and we played the basement... though I can't remember what other bands played-- maybe Entropy? That was probably late '95ish, possibly during the heyday of his 'radio show'. ***

Did you ever play The Channel in any of your various rock music acts?

*** No, though I went to a lot of shows there. It fucking kills me that it's not still there. It was definitely hated by a lot of people, but then as soon as it was gone everybody missed it. Boston needs more steady all ages clubs.

I remember one time at bandcamp, um, the Channel when Choke still had the hockey stick onstage, but didn't really wield it anymore. This death/black metal dude from Fitchburg jumps up onstage during Slappy, grabs the hockey stick, furiously swings it around like a major frantic fringeman, and jumps off the stage. I thought Choke was gonna cave his head in. Yeah, good story...pffffftttt... ***

Zine Fair Saturday in Cambridge

Tonight I was walking through my old neighborhood of Allston, MA on my way to go put myself in an awkward situation with a girl. That doesn't really make me much of a unique person because I'm a fan of punk rock music and the sub culture thing. Chances are that if you grow up around Boston and are a fan on those things and girls you will probably have one of those situations. It probably won't even be awkward but I hope it is. Thats another story for another time though. So anyway, the walk here got me to thinking about how many times I have walked by these dogs on Harvard Ave. in my lifetime.They are always sitting at the door at The Pet Shop and seem to live a pretty decent life. My favorite is the Saint Bernard but I wish he had one of those jugs around his neck like in cartoons and real life. He also doesn't remind me Beethoven in case you were wondering. My favorite time seeing these dogs was with Jarrod Shanahan of Deathpanel Press. He opened the door and proclaimed "I hear animals in there Ventura." That probably makes no sense to anyone who hasn't seen Ace Ventura. So if you havn't seen the film I highly suggest getting Netflix(They have a good deal where the first month is free.)

Let's fast forward 6 or so years to this upcoming Saturday. Jarrod has moved to Brooklyn and I relocated even less far away to Somerville. Our friendship has thrived this way. Gone are the days of being competing with eachother, fighting over girl's honor, and partying on Gardner St.

Back in the 2000's when I used to live in Allston,
this was a Pizzareia Uno and apparently something called Agua Pub.
Now, much like Bradlees and Magic Johnson's health concerns, it no longer exists.

Last Night was one of the most boring nights in history of ever so I decided to take a late night walk with my Ipod. I was listening to Winchendon, MA's So Be It when I strolled into a sick and twisted neighborhood called Kosherland. The best way this place is that it is an East coast version of Candy Land (Much like Cambridge is to Berkeley). I write this from Subway in Fields Corner next to Tedeschi's, National Guard, and Dunkin' Donuts. I would love to see a Rockin cowboy roll down Dot Ave shakin a leg. The best thing you could ask for was somebody "shakin" their fist in anger in response and mentioning thier $5 dollar footlong. My suggestion is that those flamin' dice stop, drop, n' roll to extinguish the fire.

Boston Bruins Vs. New York Rangers

I went to the exhibition of hockey skills last night between the Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers. The venue was the new Boston Garden and even though they lost, it was a great time. My good friend Mike K had an extra ticket and invited this old Irish dog. Bruins game are are the best. No better place can you find Bostonian's in their most raw form. It's like the Franklin Park Zoo of people. The Garden was also a great venue to hand out some Chopstick Murphys menu's during the DKM music video. Mike K and I had a conversation about BURN and made jokes like "Zdeno Chaka" and "Pat Burn." Here are some fun pictures I took at the hockey match...

CHOPSTICK MURPHYS - Boston's first Irish Pub/Asian Nail Salon/Asian Cuisine establishment

So let me preface this genius idea is nothing I could have come up with all by myself. Sometimes when I have free time, I like to meet with intelligent people and think up fail proof business plans. This particular group of future entrepreneurs included Pearse McGrath, Erick Vlassidis, Lynn K, Mike K, and small (but important) input by Brian Wilcox.

So yesterday was just another lazy Saturday afternoon in Boston. I made a few phone calls and we decided to meet up an the Mount Vernon restaurant on the Somerville side of Sullivan Sq.
I would best describe this place as an old timey type place where Charlestown people go to break their "code of silence" after drinking. It's best known for it's "Twin lobster special." Anyway, we finally all arrived and started having light hearted conversation, which was great, as was my roast beef sandwich. Then we noticed him.

This guy was everything that Ben Affleck wishes he could portray in a movie. The ULTIMATE townie. He was having a private conversation to an open eared gentleman next to him, but he was so loud that people on the passing orange line could probably hear him. In just twenty minutes he touched on such topics as the Red Sox buying Liverpool, some guy with the last name Doherty, Prince William, "low lifes from Winchesta," BH High hockey, the IRA, Whitey Bulger, Police "Unda cova, ova cova, I don't care. I can't lose, I'm like teflon", Davis Square , and the 1980 USA Hockey team. An 11 out of 10, such an exaggerated townie that I almost questioned if he was real. He even got so drunk that he tried to remove a black man's leather scally cap and put it on backwards. Then he went silent. Because he went outside to smoke. the place all of a sudden became overwhelmed with awkward silence until a waitress went up to a co-worker and said "Hey. wanna see a picture of my sista's new pet hampsta?" i knew I was getting into a great people watching situation, but this was next level.

For some reason that got us thinking about Dorchester Ave. Dorchester (Dot) Ave. is most likely the highest ratio of Irish Pubs, Asian nail salons, and various forms of Asian Cuisine places in all of the universe. They all seems to be really successful too. So here's our idea.. Why not take all the best elements of Dot Ave and combine them into one perfect mix of Irish people, Irish Americans, and all Eastern Asian people all enjoying one business. Our idea was "Chopstick Murphys." The name fits because of the eating apparati Chopsticks, and the local Irish-American punk act Dropkick Murphys. Both references are adored by the masses. We are still working on a full menu but some of our preliminary dishes are:

HEROIN VS. MAGIC THE GATHERING. Worse American Epidemic?

Last night I found myself listening to Failure and Year of the Rabbit. Ken Andrews is the singer of both bands and is obviously heavily influenced by hard drugs. Here's the thing though, the music is so good and obviously heroin had something to do with it. Then I started thinking about Magic The Gathering (MTG) and how fucking much it sucks. I then found myself trying to figure out what is actually a worse habit. We all know heroin is insanely stupid and dangerous, but it has provided us with some great additions to American culture. What has MTG done for us? I will try and make a strong argument for my stance on this issue. I truly believe that MTG is a worse epidemic than the life threatening heroin.

Reason #1 Look at heroin users heroes..Yeah, 2/3 of them are dead, but we're still talking about them all the time.

Now look at MTG fiends heroes:

I mean, come on. You are obviously going to hang out with the heroes of the hard drugs over "Counterstrike" or whatever the hell his name is. I know he isn't even real, but he might as well be because MTG fiends believe he is

Reason #2 - Lets take a look at your average every day run of the mill heroin addict..

This young junkie is still able to retain his youthful handsome looks and have a keen sense of fashion and you can tell by his bitchin' leather jacket. Some of the coolest people I know wear leather jacket. I bet he will still go on to lead a semi successful life unlike these pieces of garbage below.. Starting at a young age, these kids have developed complete dependency on MTG cards. I know it's sick, but it's a sick world and I'm not here to sugar coat anything. I look at this picture and see dungeree shorts that go beyond the knee, adults and underage boys interacting, and some magazines on the counter. They are probably some vile underworld taboo freak zines. So I rest my brief but well thought out case for MTG being a worse leech on America's youth.

Andrea Marshall Interview. Part 1/?

So here's an interview with Andrea Marshall. Andrea's interview is the introduction of a new element to the "Reflections on Imperfections" Fanzine blog thing. I'm showing a new side of myself so I have decided to temporarily stray away from the normal MBTA/WBCN/Boston Hardcore theme (how Boston Herald is that?) and interview one of the 125 most dynamic people to ever emerge from Montclair, Massachusetts. If you are not familiar with Montclair, it is basically just an extremely regal way of saying "on the other side of the tracks, North Quincy, MA." Andrea is an accomplished graduate of Parsons School of Design (which is located on the Fifth Avenue of Manhattan (I think?) ) and she has appeared on the Martha Stewart television program . She might kill me for linking that Martha Stewart video, but I really hope not. But its possible. Her personality is a unique mix of 27% Quincy, MA , 29% New York, NY, 7% early Madonna, and 37% other things. Our relationship can best be described as a mix of Facebook friends and ex-potential future sister in law. A mix more and more of us are coming to know in these sad economic times.

Thiis an interview with my good friend Keith Powers. He is unlike most people I interview for this piece of crap blog. How so? Well he grew up in NYC and is named after Keith Richards (no lie).

What are your thoughts on Pearse?
It goes without saying that Pearse is the most awesome dude around (besides us two handsome gentleman). Always quick with a joke or a compliment or a witty-one line, Pearse is a funnier, better dressed, nicer version of basically everyone.

If Pearse was a sports player besides Derek Jeter, who would he be?

Wow. That's the best question I've ever gotten. After watching the 30 for 30 on him, I'd go with Vlade Divac. I was going to go with Kevin McHale, because of the Boston connection... but now I'm just pretending I know a lot about Kevin Mchale. PS Drazen Petrovic was awesome.

If Pearse was on the NY Football giants, who would he be?

Steve Smith, not a lot of flash but just a steady performer.

Tough call, but solid question. I'd say it's CBGB's in the end... they built new stadiums and now 80% of the time I'm the toughest person on a given block. I miss CB's stage dives.

KYI was one of the best. I saw them on St. Patty's day with like 20 other people and CB's for some reason had tables + chairs set up... meaning chairs and tables got crushed when KYI came on. I wasn't there for the show when Andy got busted though

Do you like the New York Knickerbockers?

I was born and raised a Knicks fan, so its in my blood. But I became a lowly Nets fan at some point in the mid-90's and so I technically root for them. More because the NBA is a joke and I might as well go full in on the joke.

Me too -- NYC is a basketball town and if the Knicks and St Johns become good again, it's gonna be a fun, fun time to be around. NBA has become a sport that you need prime time guys to win and without that you're nothing. contracts and high draft picks. the knicks did awfully with both.

TWO RANDOM MUSTARD REVIEWS

1. French's Classic Yellow Mustard. This particular mustard is a personal favorite of mine. On opposite day. I have never seen a product turn a beautiful girl into something you wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole so quickly. Well at least until she brushes her teeth. This actually happened to me with my first girlfriend Alexandra. Let me take you back to 2002, June to be specific. i had just graduated from North Quincy High School and my graduation gift was finally getting to date the girl I had a crush on for the majority of those years. So obviously this ruled. Then I found out she loved mustard. Like so much. From that point on I knew I would have to share her with a squeezable bottle of French's from time to time. It's something that I finally came to terms with, but I just couldn't kiss her for like an hour after her eating this mustard. It's almost like waiting an hour to go into the pool so you don't get cramps. But the cramps would be mental anguish. Luckily she didn't really eat mustard too often, so things were good for the most part. But there is a reason I am still talking about this. The only positive thing I can say about French's mustard is that it remind me of the Red Sox sweeping the Yankees in the late 90's. There was a French's mustard sign on the first base side of the upper deck at old Yankee Stadium. I was there and kept looking at the sign because I hated French's so much. The Patriots also beat the Jets that day.

2. Guilden's Spicy Brown Mustard - So by this point I am sure you have realized that I just despise mustard. This mustard reminds me my old house at 93 Faxon road in North Quincy, MA. 1987 would be the year. I remember seeing this half eaten jar on the door of the fridge with old caked up mustard on the outside. My dad used to make ham sandwiches for his employees the night before work and leave them in the fridge. (This actually might be my earliest memory to be honest.) I remember ripping the child lock off the fridge and selfishly grabbing a ham sandwich. What an asshole move right? Anyway i tried to shove as much of it down my throat before my mom could pry it away from me. The taste in my mouth was just horrific. This was my first encounter with mustard and it was just vile. i really blame them for not getting a better child lock.

-So your last name is Flynn which is a lot like my last name. Are you a fan of Last in Line and The Prowl featuring Mikey Flynn?

i was a big Last in line fan and early '00s western mass hc, and the prowl was cool too. Although the biggest Flynn musical creation I'm most partial to, aside from Shot Dead (was that your band, something like that i think) is this guy Patrick Flynn, the conductor. I live on that street. Ive never bought any fireworks there though. There is a mattress on the alley behind it. i'll send you a pic of it for the viewing pleasure of the interview.

Pete is a good freind. He has told me many stories of getting beat up in quincy. i dont believe it. ive spent a lotta time in quincy myself. i used to park my car at the redline stop when id come up form new bedford for a red sox game or a show or to buy records. In an unrelated story entirely, this one time even radigan and i went to boston w/ johawk in his brand new minivan. he was 21 and just got his licencse. on the way back from a day of following him around and buying records at Mike(?)'s old store in cambridge, we were on 93 approaching the split to 24 South and Route 3 (to the cape). Joe took route 3, by accident(?????), and 35 minutes later we saw a welcome to plymouth sign. Joe got so pissed he started swaering at me and ev. he then suggested that we were to far out of the way and that he preferred to sleep on the side of the road....(to be continued in another interview by futurebreed)

ernesto's. its right near my apartment and the guy there knows me. why, you ask? for the past couple years he makes me feel strange for not tipping him, even though all he's down is throwing the slice of pizza in the oven and then putting it in a bag. every time i walk in he gives me this look like "oh here's the kid who doesnt tip 50 cents for me bending over", yet none of this has ever been spoken. he smiles as i pay him, but, it feels aggressive. i cant have this experience anywhere else in the north end. AND as for BCN....where else could you find a non-XM radio station that played ANYTHING-chris cornell (largely spoonman 9 out of 10 songs in a row) monday through sunday evening, and lets not forget about wahtever that metal core / hc / punk show they had sunday evenings i'd listen to while trying do my weekend homework....yeah, i remember hearing embrace today on that show a couple times, i wont lie about that. But all in all, i hate soundgarden, temple of the dog = OK (only knew that one song w/ Eddie) and audioslave is just too hard for my ears.

Want to play basketball next week with me? I say we play two on two basketball against a couple of skinheads of the same skill set and call it Skinz versus Flynns.
I have a grant hill jersey and a shawn kemp jersey too. we could make this work, but neither of my jersey's say "flynn" on the back....do you happen to know of any famous flynn basketball players?

With the last name Flynn and all the heritage that goes with it, do you find it hard to live in the North End?
- if i had a meatball for every potato that was thrown at me i wouldnt have to buy any meatballs for a while when i make spagetthi and meatballs for my girlfriend

So this morning I found myself waiting for Tellos in Jackson Sq to open because I needed a new pair of socks to impress the good people of the orange line. A real question where your life is going type of moment. I decided that if I didnt sit down no one would notice that I wasn't wearing socks so I just decided to get on the orange line and skip the whole Tello's experience. What a terrible decision that was. I got on the Orange line and obviously I saw this girl Kerry who I made out with once at a party on Parker St in Mission Hill in early 2004. I didn't say hello because all I could think about was not having socks on and she probably wouldn't remember me anyway. No, thats probably not true, I'm sure she remembers me. So I got off at Back Bay station and decided to walk up Boylston St and it got me thinking back to Sunday July 4th, 1999. It was a magical day in the Hub. There were swirling rumors about a Planet Hollywood opening up across from the Pru and I purchased THREE Toxic Narcotic 7"s and The Trouble "Crime and Punishment" 7" at Newbury Comics. Much like my mind right now, I was wondering around Boston doing everything I could to avoid the Boston Pops concert. I HATE that concert. When I got home that night I put on WBCN 104.1 FM's "Boston Emissions" program. Shred was hosting the show on this particular night and he played Toxic Narcotic. I called into the show because i didnt recognize the version of whatever song he was playing and he explained to me that they had just released the 89-99 CD. I really wish I knew that before going out and buying the 7"s. oh well. But back to JP, when did Meatland change the font on its sign? Also, wouldn't have a Planet Hollywood been much cooler than Fidelity Investments?

REVIEW OF MBTA "FRONTLINE" VHS TAPE

PART 1.

So a few weeks ago , this mysterious package showed up at my house delivered by a mysterious person. Actually the mysterious person that delivered the package was just a mailman but I don't know anything about him so I guess he is mysterious in his own sort of mail man way. Enough about him though, this package contained a VHS tape. A Maxwell VHS tape to be more specific entitled "MBTA Frontline 1990." I have no idea*why this thing showed up at my house randomly but here is my review of this thing.

First off, my review simply cannot do the audio of this VHS justice. Here are the two hosts of the VHS. The womans voice sounds about as appetizing as a mustard sandwich on Wonder Bread. Or a Pepto Bismol popsicle. Her voice sounds like she sucked a muffler off during the Blizzard of 78 while skid hopping. And the guy? Well his voice literally sounds like one of those computer generated voices if there was an option to have an East Chelsea. MA accent. So they do the intro for a while, but then it cuts to this silly goose. Some guy fishing on the Public Garden bridge. Hope you don't catch one of those Swan boats! This guy is a wacky as they come. Also as you can tell from the picture, he is clearly anticipating Hurricane Bob with that yellow rain coat. I don't want to spoil anything , but he does catch a paper mache fish!

so the video goes on for a while about how T passes save you money and all that stuff, but then look who makes an appearance.... Yep! thats him! McGruff the Mother Fucking Crime Dog testing out the MBTA Police Motorcycle. Soo cool. How cool would it be if all the MBTA cops dressed as McGruff? Like all the time. Imagine getting a citation for fare evasion from McGruff? Imagine those loud youths at Downtown Crossing around 3:00PM getting fucked up by McGruff? Imagine if he turned out to be a dirty cop?

*In all actuality I know who mailed me this gem. Part 2 tomorrow..

I went to Cape Cod, MA about a month ago which was spectacular. Spent the day with the girlfriend. We went to Provincetown, MA to start things off and it was "Bear week." That was awesome. and lastly for tonights entry I recently visited the Deluxe cafe in the South End, MA. Years ago I went on one of my first dates with an ex girlfriend there. It was totally in the honeymoon period where you are convinced that you will be together for eternity or some long stretch of time or something. We thought it would be really cute to do one of those "JF loves etc" things that people carve into trees. But carve it into a tree we did not. nope. Because I am a punk rock fan, I thought it would be fitting to find one of the punk rock records on the wall and write it on there. The Ramones record was chosen. My relationship with that particular person is much like the state of Dee Dee, Joey, and Johnny Ramone. As you can see here I made sure that everyone goes there knows that

So I still do not have enough money to buy a time machine, but when I do (and I will) raise the sufficient funds, I will go to 1984. Why 1984? Well let me tell you...

The time machine will magically warp me to the parking lot of North Quincy station. I'll take a quick glance at my high school which is conveniently located across the street. I imagine the school looked roughly 150% the same as it does now, so it won't be that interesting. Still it deserves a glance. Much like 3 out of 5 days in high school, i will hop inbound on the red line and go to the hub (of the universe) via Columbia station.

First I'll get off at the pre renovation South Station and walk down Summer St. I imagine with all this time/subway travel that I worked up a heck of an appetite, So i'll grab a quick slice to eat at the A street deli at the corner of Melcher st. If anyone reading this knows me, you know where I'm going next...The Gillete headquarters, no I'm just joshing you, I'm going to the Channel to see a live punk concert. I can really only afford a huffy-like quality time machine, So I only have a few hours left. After I peep the Channel, I need to head over to the Old Garden to catch a C's game. 1983-1984 was the only championship season to feature the "big 3" (DJ, Max and Gerald Henderson), so obviously I need to catch a quarter of roundball I fuckling love black athletes so much, like soo much.

After all that testosterone on Causeway st, I'll unwind in the Combat Zone... I'll hop on the orange line and take it to essex where the pink pussycat is. I know i'm only 25, but I really don't think pink cats ever existed, so I have no idea what "pink pussycat" could mean. No, there i go being a goose again, I now what they are alluding to! Well my day is done so i will head back to North Quincy, pay my $3.00 parking fare and vamouse back to 2009.

Either way, while I do give her credit for accepting the invitation to my Quincy room, Id still give this air heart of a person an overall personality rating of a 2 out of a possible 58.

Here's my friend Sarah aka the other person wearing an Atlanta Braves hat. She actually is from Atlanta so it makes sense that she would wear an Atlanta Braves hat. At various points in my life I had Boston Braves hats, but not tonight. Regardless, she used to work at the local "Double Cheeseburger King" restaurant near my house and was actually the first person I ever gave a basketball card too. My point? This entry is about a friend of mine. I won't name her by name because I don't want to embarrass her. But let me explain a little bit about Amelia. By all accounts, she is a hard worker. Whether it be art school, being a waitress at the double cheeseburger king, or just being a nice person. All hard workers deserve a nice vacation once in a while to get away from their surroundings. You agree right? of course you do. So, she decides to start off the first leg of her vacation by visiting her home town of Philadelphia, PA. I don't know what she was thinking about on the Bolt bus, but I'm sure it was something along the lines of "Gee, Boston is a great city, I love it there, but I could use a few weeks off ." Who can argue that? I know I certainly can't. Especially if you're friends with me. So obviously after anticipating a break from Boston, this is the first thing she see's when she gets off the bus in Philly:

Like come on...How about that for luck? Not only was it Boston Hardcore merchandise, but quite possibly the most ignorant item out there. A BHC basketball jersey! As an added bonus, (just in case she forgot which baseball team plays in the hub) there's a giant Red Sox logo! She's a strong person and I'm sure she had already stopped thinking about it, but Boston is like a disease. The type of disease that will never let anyone take a full on vacation from it.

If you were to tell me that the moment WBCN signed off the air my life would go on a permenant (48 hour stretch) upswing, I would have said "You're crazy! you silly goose. get the hell out of here you little bastard" but I guess thats life. Always full of it's little surprises. Here's some examples of my recent good fortune.

Imagine heaven on earth, but with overcast sky's, "all right at best" looking girls, a live reggae band that played 3.4 songs over two hours, delicious ice cream sandwiches and another girl that goes to art school with an American apparel hoodie on because it was unseasonably cold.

Crazy things happen on the Red Line

So this morning was just another typical morning for me. I woke up a little early because I had to go back to Quincy for a second to pick something up at my Dad's house. So I shower and walk down to Harvard station and hop on the Red Line. An above average ride for me, no delay's and I listened to Ink & Dagger on my ipod. I get off at North Quincy and this is what I see:

Yes, that is a backwards pink Kangol scaly cap. So i'll offer some theory's I have about this crazy mofo.

1. He's part of the growing Asian immigrant population in North Quincy. He's waiting for an inbound train to head to Chinatown so he can pick up some groceries and see some friends. He's doesn't quite have a grasp on fashion, but it's all right cause because he's a nice guy and is enjoying his newspaper.

2. He's the ultimate hipster. He's disguising himself as part of the growing Asian population in North Quincy for the sake of Irony. He's wearing the backwards pink scaly cap to tip off people who get it. This guy is so above being cool and just doesn't care at all. I think I saw him once at a Mission Hill party in the earlier part of the decade. If its the same guy, and it could be, he's a real wild one. The type of guy that just doesn't give a fuck, or even two fucks. This guy is above living in Allston, Mission Hill, Somerville, or Cambridge. He's so hip that he can even make North Quincy work for him.

So WBCN is coming to an end? Another well done job by the powers that be at CBS Radio. I have a few questions How the hell did you make "The Rock of Boston" not work in a town full of white college kids? like how did you find a way to fuck that one up? are you serious?

of course these a rhetorical questions as I completely know the answer to them. I'll preface it by saying I hate when other people say "I'd be better at their job than they are." However in this case, it is so painfully obvious. WBCN is arguably the most famous rock station in the country. Defintely in the top 3. The current state of the radio station could be compared to the Celtics before they got Kevin Garnett. WBCN has 16 time championship level history, but has been in a continuous state of mediocrity since Larry Bird retired. The Larry Bird of WBCN would be Charles Laquidara and his Big Mattress radio program. It was a great show that had better ratings than Howard, but eventually come time to retire. Charles went to WZLX and the station kind of did a well needed spring cleaning of its music library. They were still playing the 70's rock songs with the new 90's stuff and it was a whole mess of a format from what I gather. They basically just pressed reset and started over(Which is what they should have done now.) They still had the Robert Parish of WBCN , Mark Parenteau* ,but could never get that hall of fame quality talent to get the point where they ruled the city. Howard Stern was on, so they had great ratings, but i'm talking about the non-syndicated stuff. They tried for years but constantly struck out. At least in their eyes. I always loved most of the On-Air talent. The DJ's were great, but the corporate big whigs of course found a way to make the station terrible. It was never marketed right. The early 2000's is when I got off board. Once in a while there would be flashes of greatness, but no worth all the other garbage. In the past few years I got back on board and really thought the station was making a comeback. But Obviously, that didn't happen. WBCN needed a Danny Ainge type Character. That person doesn't need to be Morman, but they need someone who is a proven winner who knows what WBCN was like when on top, yet contemporary enough to understand today's game. The thing is, the game of winning over the Boston audience isn't nearly as hard as basketball. I'm not saying I'd be better, but I would be better than whoever makes descisions over there. I was a successful show promoter for many years. It was a my job to what people liked. I can pick a part Boston culture as good as anyone. Kind of in that Ken Casey type way. Ken Casey looked at the greater Boston area and made lemonade.

*I'd only even compare the Chief to Mark Parenteau on a talent level. Nothing else. So Robert, please don't be mad. I Chose The Chief over McHale because like The Chief, Mark Parenteau still had some game left in him and was better and more in touch than Nik Carter. It would be funny if Parenteau's prison number was 00 though

Boston people are simple, but in an un-generic way.. Simple in the way that we know a ton about Sports, Music, and Sarcasm. But we know these three things so in depth that its always sickening. This is why I've never understood why WBCN has this generic as hell play list that was probably brainstormed in an conference room in Los Angeles. Most of their audience grew up buying our music at Newbury Comics. We were so priveledged to have such a great record store chain to buy music from in Boston. Other cities didn't have that. No wonder we demand more from the radio station. I'm being serious with this...If you go to a construction site in Revere do you really think you're going to hear a bunch of guys talking about BUSH or Seven Mary Three? You're obviously going to hear something like "Yo ked, you still wanna hit up that Ducky Boys show tonight, Its at the Abbey in Cambridge or something or some shit like that" Seriously nobody inside of 128 listens to BUSH. Walk down any main street in Eastern Mass. more likely than not youre going to find at least one person that loves the Misfits. If you walk down Newbury St, more than half the people there look like they like the Misfits. So If all these people are so blatenly everywhere, why don't I ever hear the Misfits on WBCN? I'm just using them as an example. You can substitute hundreds of other bands there. Actually, another great example would be The Pouges. I don't even like this band, so i'm not being biased. The station plays the same fucking songs all day. I've heard the argument a million times that WBCN has to cater to everyone, not to your needs Jimmy" Well no shit. But seriously, If you can't get a 25 year old white male from Quincy named Jimmy Flynn to listen to your rock station, you're obviously doing something wrong. I'm as generic Boston as they come. I'm the epitome of your demographic. Being a successful show promoter and just growing up around here, I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about. The thing about Boston is that even the generic people aren't generic. Some 23 year old pipe fitter from Dorchester may not have the brains to get through Harvard, but he still knows more about music than an Ivy league grad from Kansas. Everyone in Boston is the type of person that's in a band or has a buddy in a band. To take it a step further, everyone in Boston is no more than degrees of separation away from knowing someone in the Dropkick Murphys. Underground music in Boston isn't even really underground. In fact, WBCN would have been smart to jst use the whole Dropkick Murphy's recipe as a thing to start over from. It doesn't take a genius to figure out tha a Rock radio station in Boston that was 50% rock n roll, 25% Boston culture, 13% pouges/irishy stuff influenced and 12% SS Decontrol/hardcore to work in this town. Not only in fact work, but own the town.

How would this mixture of format not work in Boston? like seriously

-50% of the time play all the hits and popular RHCP, White Stripes, Weezer, Green Day stuff that. stuff that the casual listener wants to hear.
then mix in:
-25% play old bands- not Classic rock bands, but play the stuff you won here on WZLX. The Clash, Ramones, Sex Pistols, U2, Iggy Pop, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, The Cure. Basically Leftover lunch stuff, but a little heavier. and play it in constant rotation, not just slip it in every once in a while to give your station the false image that you're cool and down with the old school.
-25% etc weekend programming like Boston Emmesions, Classic concerts, Classic BCN moment, Indie shows. Have something that appeals to the above average music listener
-25% Boston Culture- Even though its not the highest percent of what your broadcasting, its the most important. The Dropkick Murphys most famous hits are about Boston, but have you ever listened to a whole DKM record? Most of the songs aren't. People in Boston, not only physically live in Boston, but mentally don't leave route 128. News outside of Boston may as well be in a foreign country. A fistfight in Holyoke is as important as a car bombing in Jerusalem. We'd consider them both war's overseas. We respect our troops in both places, but don't want to read about them unless nothing else is going on. I honestly believe people would read an article in the herald about a silly gose falling down the steps at Kenmore station instead of picking up a USA today and reading about the cure for HIV.
-Play classic bands like the Modern Lovers, Mission of Burma, Bosstones, etc
-Play Songs from the upper echelon local bands that are new
-Play songs of our of town bands that Boston people are obsessed with like The Pouges and anything to do with the Clash
-Interviews with local Sports Heroes, Music Heroes, Politicians. whoever. Talk about local towns too. people love hearing about their city on the radio. For example, love when Crash of the T&R show talks about Quincy on T&R. It gets people talking. I know from first hand experience. I once heard him talking about The Beachcomber and Wollaston Beach. I called my buddy to tell him, then he became a listener of WBCN. He eventually stopped listening to WBCN because T&R are on way too early, but I'll get to that later.

-Also embrace the history of the Station more. They didn't really start doing this until last year and it's a real shame. People always heard about how historic it is, but didn't know why. Some things went up on their website, but there's so much more

Half the town is filled with angry, witty,and bored people. The other half are college kids. Mostly from out of town. So if you just move into your nice freshman dorm at BU and have no prior knowledge of radio in Boston, are you really going to listen to BCN? Of course you're not. Imagine this.. an 18 kid that just moves into warren towers. He just moved up here from Delaware and lost his ipod in the move. He's real bummed out , but luckily he can listen to the radio on his alarm clock. He stumbles upon 104.1 FM and "Icky Thump" by the White Stripes is playing. he's thinking "All right, this is cool. this must be the rock station in Boston, I guess I'll just leave it on here" When that song ends, all of a sudden he here's this wild guitar sound that is about as hip and relevant as tribal tattoos. The Vocals come on the song ans it's some British guy debating whether he should fly to LA to find his long lost asshole brother. In disgust, He immediately finds 101.7 and decides that listening to songs through static is better than Bush. At least this WFNX station has half a clue. 18 year old's were seriously 3 when that Bush song came out. The station library needs another complete overhaul

From what I understand WBCN was insanely popular in the 70's. They owned the town on a Bobby Orr level. The Dj's got to play what they wanted and talk about what they wanted. Infinity (precursor to CBS) radio bought the station and decides to do things their own way and water things down. What happens? you guess it! The ratings went down. The DJ's went on strike and people didn't support the station. They won their fight then, but over time the station has completely gone to hell.My point of telling you that story is that it proves that people in Boston do give a shit. We do care about social issues and good music. I know an strong hippy type Laquidara personality wouldn't be the answer, but WBCN already has what it needs in Toucher&Rich. They at least got me back on board with the station. Smart, whitty, and insanely sarcastic people who know what the hell is going on around their surroundings. I really think they only are allowed to use 25% of the potential. WBCN constantly fucks with their show and somehow they've still managed to keep it great. I've looked like an asshole defending WBCN to people just hoping maybe the station would get better. When it finally did start getting really good about 2 years ago, CBS went and fucked everything up .Lets take the Toucher and Rich show. Here we have one of the best shows in the history of the station. Popular enough to the point that they really don't even need to play music. Definitely the most successful show n the afternoon slot since Mark Parenteau* got fired. Wildly popular amongst the "people that don't get up before noon" demographic. Logically CBS radio moves them right to the mornings. Obviously the correct decision and all. Now instead of going to a party and hearing "hey Jimmy, did you hear Toucher and Rich today?" and discussing how funny is was I'll go to a party and hear "Remember that time T&R did this and that, man I haven't heard that show in forever." Great move corporate people that don't understand anything about Boston

I know that Boston Emissions, they're local rock show's ratings weren't part of the decision to get rid of WBCN, but I'm going to kick a dog when it's down. That local show is so incredibly terrible. The girl that does it seems nice and all, so its nothing personal. but that show should be called "What local washed up Rock act is playing O'Briens this week Emissions." Good riddance to that. You even have Chris Rucker working in the building who had the best local show on and you can't get him? Guy loves music and would play all sorts of local music, not just washed up Allston rock bands.

And what about the logo? Jesus Christ! We live in a town with countless artists and graphic designers. You guys come up with this piece of shit? Mr Butch could have even done something better and more on WBCN's cheap budget. I'd love to meet the guy had the final decision in choosing this. "Whoa! that logo is awesome. Our Audience can relate to that!" I bet that same guy also Drinks Mountain Dew and get vertical on the weekend. The logo looks like a logo for cooling aftershave. In fact, if the logo said "Gillette 104.1" instead WBCN, people could relate to it more because it's a local company. The old WBCN 80's/90's logo's were awesome. So awesome in fact that FNX ripped off, or at least did a new logo that matches your own early 80's logo on their new bumper stickers.

I guess you're wondering why I'm so livid about all this. I know I'm coming off as over passionate about some corporate rock station that I don't work for, but WBCN is really part of the Boston culture. The History of the Station is incredible, and maybe if they started embracing it before last year, people would realize it. I know that musicallyit's been a dying memorial to itself, but I've always held on to the fact that it could be good again. I have an emotional attachment to it. WBCN I got to skate at the old Boston Garden, see pumpkin drops, hang out on boats loaded with the peanut gallery, all thanks to WBCN. WAAF is trashier than trash, WFNX plays too many bands with synthesizers, and I don't even want bring up that WBOS mess. I guess with all this said, maybe it's a good thing that the station will be gone. Probably wishful thinking, but it does allow you to completely tear down the mess its become and bring it back later.

So a little to well known fact about me is that I love the early 90's. Specifically 1991 and 1992. 1990 was still kind of the 80's and 1993 was more mid 90's. 1992 was special to me as it was the last year that I was completely sane. My grades were good, it was the last year my parents were together, and I got cute little bassett hound puppy named Stanley. Let me lits of as many reasons as I can possibly can as to why this was the greatest two year stretch ever.

CRYSTAL "CLEAR" PEPSI
Crystal Pepsi was the greatest drink I could ask for. I was obsessed with this stuff. After school every day, I would walk from Sacred Heart Elementry to Sam's Variety store. For $1.00 I would purchase two bottles of Crystal Pepsi amd one pretzel stick. I have no idea why Pepsi would ever get rid of this

My Brush with Death / Rental Car

So, a few weeks ago I almost had the best death ever. I have accomplished everything in life I ever dreamed. Saw the Red Sox beat the Yankees, Saw the Celtics beat the Lakers, played CBGB's twice, and even got to out with my high school crush (since broken up, but I can still get it off my checklist.) According to all counts, I've lived a full life by the age of 25. By no means do I want to die, but of ways to go down, this is way up there...

A few weeks ago, I had a hard days work, the kind of day where I was working like a dog. After this long day (noon-7:00pm), I decided I go for a nice slice of pizza from the best pizza place on Blackstone St, Haymarket Pizza. The route I took would bring me by down Causeway St, a four lane street outside the TD Banknorth Garden.

So, there I am, thinking about a nice $1.25 slice of Haymarket Pizza, driving by the Garden, when some son of a gun cuts OVER the double yellow lines. I act quickly...but unfortunately, I swerved right into the side of a gas truck. This could have gone one of two ways. I could have either blown up in a blaze of glory outside of the site that no less than one year after the 17 Time World Championship Boston Celtics destroyed the LA Fakers ...OR I could be $800 in debt for getting into an accident. I guess I'll take the $800 debt, but what could have been... Would this have happened if they didn't tear down the Elevated Green Line? Maybe...but who really knows?

With every good car accident comes a mediocre rental car. My insurance company ( Safety Insurance ) told me they would by no more than $29.99 a day for a rental car at Enterprise.

Being a Boston Celtics (17X World Champions) season ticket holder, I took roughly 26 seconds to start making jokes about the car and Celtics' point guard Rajon Rondo.

"Hey Mike, I'm bring the ball up 93 North, The lock can't defend me" to which he added "Rondo's driving the lane." I had big plans for this car.... For someone as ironic as myself, this car was a dream. Soon all the seats were covered in Celtics point guard jerseys.

I'll start with three subjects: Siege, Jarrod, and Weymouth Face.

Warning: To any hc snobs, you will never know Siege like quincy/weymouth kids do.
1. SIEGE. Anyone that matters knows Siege and their influence on everything. Once specific thing they influenced was they city of Weymouth, MA. Home of Mary Lous, Eric Davies, and a purple line station. Crust kids internationally adore this band (for great reason), but not many people have been privledged enough to hang out with Siege fans from Weymouth. They are an impressive breed that buys epiphone guitars from South Shore music instead of changing strings. They are incredibly incredible. Bands like Red Rum, Kevorkians Angels, and Combat Death are living, yet broken up examples of the Siege ideology. One time i Saw Drummer of Siege , Rob Williams inside Bickfords of Braintree acting wierd. sooo wierd. Another time I saw him selling Nightstick cd's to the Blonde at Quincy Records. What a fucking crazy goose he is. Great drummer though. One of the few times I hung out with a Siege Weymouth person was when my friend Beakey (the train) picked one up named "Mark Kevorkian aka Dr Smooth" We stopped at a beer store and he bought no less than 30 red dogs. to make matters better, he drank them!

2. Jarrod Shanahan
Part of the big 3 of Irony involving himself, Pearse, and McCuddy. When President Obama was elected, no one was happier. He wasn't happy for the country, but for himself so he could make the joke "Bar Rock O'Briens". His two favorite things to discuss are politics and how awful the rock club O'Briens is. I happen to agree with him too. O'briens is like giving up.

The first time I met this intense character was 9/21/04 at 11:56 pm. Roughly 4 minutes before my 21st birthday. The location: An Tue Nua. ATN is an Irish pub located close to Fenway Park (where the Red Sox play). I had just witnessed a man get destroyed by a car outside The Gap (now Bertuccis) in Kenmore Sq. He got so fucked up that he died right there. I was like "Man, I need a drink" luckily right down Beacon St was "Lushlife Tuesdays." One problem though, I wasn't 21 until midnight. Enter Big Tom. I showed up 4 minutes ot midnight and he was able to squeeze me in. His wife works there, so im sure it was to big of a deal. Word got around that it was my 21st birthday and who but Tom decided to buy me my first legal beer and shot. Normally when that happens to a nice young kid on his 21st birthday its great, except for me. Big Tom, the aforementioned Hardest, Sickest, motherfucker of all time buy me a shot and says "You better no puke." Maybe he was being a silly goose, but I've heard stories of the B'zrker reunion... VIOLENT stories.... stories like when him and his other rapscallion friends locked the door to he middle east and Big Tom says "You're all fucked". Not sure if everyone got fucked, but from what I hear, if you got thrown over the bar, you were lucky. So back to my story.. This is a lot of pressure on me. Obviously I didn't puke cause I wouldn't be here to tell there story.

This interview is with Mark Sarno. Mark currently is the drummer of New Lows and used to play hardcore drumming in With One Intent and Downhill Fast. He also used to play regular rock drumming in The Call Up and The Losing Kind. Things I can tell you about Mark is that he is an upper echelon character that went to BC High and loves fire trucks. He works at whole foods , so stop worrying if you thought you were going to read an interview with someone that doesn't support a greener earth. He loves Ron Francis, Mike Dijan, Chris Nilan, and Papa Gino's. For 1.5 years I was privileged enough to share the stage with him. That stage wasn't always the pinnacle of greatness, but it did always have great drumming. like really good drumming. Like insanely incredible Alan Cage from Burn/Quicksand style drumming

1. What are 5 things that come to mind when you hear the phrase "Boston in the 80's"?

2. Lime green fire trucks you say? Tell me more...

Yeah. I have always been interested in the fire department and wanted to be a fire fighter, but for various reasons it never happened. But, yeah I went to school in newton during the 80's and they had lime green fire trucks, and there was a fire station near my school so I would always see them. Medford and Boston had them too. I guess for like 7 or 8 years and then a new fire chief shut that down pretty quick. I personally like red fire trucks, but i guess it was a phase in the late 70's into the 80's. But the best thing about the BFD in the 80's was the tiller ladder trucks, but they phased those out towards the late 1980's. Watertown even had one and they were practicing down the street from my house and I got to drive the tiller. It was awesome.

3. Have you ever been out to Long Island in Boston Harbor?

No actually I have not, but would like to some day.

4. Best old Boston Garden memory?

Probably going to see the Celtics with my dad and Larry Bird fowled out of the game. Near the end of the game, my old man points out that Wayne Gretzky is sitting below us on the floor. So my Dad happen to know the guy doing security by the entrance to the floor so he lets me go over to get his autograph. I get Gretzky's autograph and go back to my dad, not realizing that Mark Messier and Kevin Lowe were sitting right next to him.

5. Best diner in Watertown?

Hmm...well I'd have to say the New York diner. It has changed owners and is still as good. Great homefries. Growing up, I used to go to Tresca's a lot, and they also have great homefries. Victor's too closer to brighton is good, but not as good as it used to be. They have awesome homefries as well. In my opinion, thats one of the make or breaks of a diner; the homefries. That Town Diner blows. Overrated yuppie diner. I remember the day I walked in to eat there and hadn't been in a while. I didn't recognize any of the staff and took one look at the menu, saw "egg-less" salad sandwiches and got up and walked out...and I love veg/vegan food.

6. What was it like playing a hardcore show at Nick's comedy stop?

It was awesome. It was so ignorant actually. With One intent covered No Remorse by COT. I turned around at one point during the first Overcast song and someone behind me was about to be smashed over the head with a folding chair and chaos erupted from that point.

7. Who was the best hockey player to come out of the Catholic Conference?

Teddy Donato or Shawn MacEachern. Chris Nilan too, but he's more like most ignorant player.

8. Since I’ve known you , I’ve known you to be a very calm person as well as a very good driver., but not always together. Not violently per se, but “the beast within” may come out. One good example is when you are driving south and entering the Bronx. The projects on the left and the driving range on the right always seems make you insanely awesome, why is this? Any other driving situations that you despise?

You know, there is ALWAYS traffic there. No matter what time of day, no matter what day, shit comes to a fucking halt there. I also hate driving in Fresh Pond; that is always a mess. You know, I am going to go ahead and say, I officially hate driving. I cant wait for the warm weather so I can walk to work.

An "If I had a time machine" moment

When I get down to it and purchase a time machine, one of the first places I will go to is Jamaica Plain, MA. JP now a days is more like Jamaican me crazy, but it wasn't like that in the mid 80's. JP was a magical land just west of Roxbury. What would I do when i got to JP? well let me tell you..

First off, I would ride the Elevated Orange Line to Green St Station.Not only was the orange line elevated, but it went to actual places where businesses and people are. The train ran high above Washington Street as opposed to the remote hole in the ground route it now runs. I know there is huge demand for people to get to the epicenter of activity Stony Brook, wait no there isn't. Anyway, when I get off the train at Green, I'll walk down the steps and grab some soda pop at Ruggerio's market. Next I will make my way to the small bar named Green St. Station. why would I go there? I'd go there to catch local band The Pixies or perhaps Nirvana, a small touring act from Seattle. The show is going late, so i'll have to leave early to catch the last train back to my time machine. It's really late and the Orange Line is insanely sketchy (cause it's nighttime and also the 80's) so i'll just walk up to Centre St and catch the Green Line. The Green Line? yes. As if JP wasn't perfect enough already right? Before the lackluster 39 bus, the Green Line ran all the way to Forest Hills. I decide to catch the trolley outside Woolworth's so I can grab an am/fm walkman so I can listen to Mark Parenteau on WBCN. Well here comes the Trolley, have a good night!

CHARLIE'S KITCHEN

Here we have the menu from Charlie's Kitchen in Harvard Sq. If you are not familiar with this establishment, it is The Double Cheeseburger King.
I myself have enjoyed some great times here. I have ate here, I have drank here, and even played a few live rock concerts at Charlies. Friendly people always like Stan, Angry Nick, and the French Courier looking guy. The wait staff puts up with a heck of a lot. I once saw someone tip a waitress with a James Worthy card. Who the hell does that?

But lets let look at the menu. I have some serious questions about this thing.

1. Where the hell is that car in the front going? Noir for last call? The Expressway to go to the south shore? The Other Side to get mediocre service? who knows?

My theory is that he walked out on his bill from the upstairs and is speeding away toward Allston before a waitress notices. He is probably the type of person who goes to the Model before midnight.

2. Why is the sidewalk at a different angle from the front door?

3. Where are these beautiful tree's in real life? They really look nice.

4. I know at least two people that have worked there over the years went to art school. So this artwork is the best the double cheeseburger king can do?

5. not about the menu, but if lobsters had souls, would the lobsters at charlies be the most depressed lobsters ever?

On March 17, 1992, he was traded by the Twins along with Denny Neagle to the Pirates for John Smiley, making his major league debut for the Pirates in 1993. In his fifth season with the Pirates, he was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on July 8. Cummings was released by the Phillies on February 24, 1998, and signed with the Cincinnati Reds three days later only to be claimed off waivers by the Red Sox in spring training. The Red Sox released him on March 30, 1999, and Cummings signed with the Twins on May 14. On August 31, 2000, he was traded to the Red Sox for minor leaguer Hector De Los Santos. Cummings became a free agent after the season and signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He helped the Diamondbacks win the 2001 World Series, scoring the tying run in the ninth inning during Game 7. It would be three years before Cummings played in the majors again, spending time in the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs minor league systems from 2002-2003. On February 10, 2004, he signed with the Devil Rays and batted .278 in 54 at bats that year. He was released after the season and signed with the Baltimore Orioles, but got only two at bats that year and retired after the season.

AN OBJECTIVE LOOK AT MILTON, MA'S CONTRIBUTION

Growing up in North Quincy, hating Milton kids was as important as hating the Yankees and Lakers. Without mentioning names, The singer of In My Eyes was telling me how mean spirited Quincy kids would wait behind the drive-thru menu at burger king near the Milton line and swarm the car once they finished ordering their whoppers. Stereotypical Milton kids are by definition "gayer than homosexuality", but lets take a step back and recognize that there is always an exception or two to the rule. Here are some arguments that I can offer to debate.

-Milton's only "Subway" station is in the Middle of Mattapan and Ashmont. Kids that commuted via the "Hi-Speed Trolley" had to grow up quick.
-Quincy borders the Neponset River, Milton borders top of the line progressive neighborhoods (on opposite day)

...If you're a fan of hardcore/punk like the other 78% of the people that read this, Milton has some history you might be interested in. Milton legends:

Frankie from Death Before Dishonor/Trust in Few
Frankie is a living example of living near the Mattapan line in Milton. Without commuting on those innocent looking, yet violent trolleys, there is no way he could have been ready to play the bass. In my opinion, Frankie is the exact opposite of a Mattapan Trolley. Intimidating looking character, but as friendly and loyal as golden retriever. One thing i'll say, he's supperior to a mattapan trolley because, instead of going to Mattapan, he goes everywhere else in the world.

so i present you, in no specific order, the big three of Milton. Each person relates to each other as good as a jerk and good person, but still all hold their place in history. I still think Quincy is unbelievably superior to Milton, but you have to give credit where its due.

SWEET PETE AND HIS IMPORTANCE TO THE IMAGE OF QUINCY, MA

Sweet Pete, former lead singer of Hardcore music act In My Eyes has more to be proud of then just In My Eyes' catalog. Without him, people would just think that all 100% of the population of Quincy (including the booming Chinese population) were all a bunch of polo hat wearing, bud light drinking, red sox pull-over , windbreaker people. Pete, who was born and raised in the City of Presidents saw his fair share of shenanigans, but nothing more than any other city. Like myself, Pete took a permanent inbound ride on the Red Line to Boston, but still dedicates his life to Quincy's image. Without him, people would get the idea that Quincy people did OC's, jumped over turn styles on the subway, or even worse yet, smoked cigarettes for hours at a time outside all 4 T stations. Since Pete has been around, kids have reduced smoking around the clock at all stops to just Quincy Center and North Quincy stations. The city has a proud history of being the home to the first dunkin donuts and the fifth buck-a-buck. We'd all hate to see the perception of the city to go up in smoke like the smokers outside North Quincy Station. John and John Quincy Adams were both born and raised in the Q, do you think they ever got hammered at the Irish Pub and blew every red light on hancock st en route to JJ Foleys (21 Kingston St, Boston, MA 02111) for last call? Im not going to count it out, but I HIGHLY doubt it. Raiders and Presidents alike owe Mr Maher a ton.

Other than Springa of SS Decontrol being a complete piece of crap from hell, I couldn't begin to comprehend why people think Quincy people are subpar. I'd love to hear anyone's theory on this....

-Ainge was my favorite player, the first athlete that i liked. i think i was 8 when they traded him. my dad showed me the headline in newspaper and i did in fact cry. and i hated ed pickney and joe klien for it.

over this past winter, there were "insane ice storms", did you see any insanity?

ice storms were ugly. no power for awhile, trees down everywhere, roads were closed it was nuts. the national gaurd came in, cause of looting. my old high school was used as a shelter.alot of people had it worse than us. a girl got molested or something. our furnace was electric so it was a freeze out at my place, we eventually got a generator. a lot of people had it worse than us.

winchendon way way back was famous for toys, like internationally famous. all wooden stuff, like rocking horses, blocks, i don't know, if it was a toy and could be made of wood the fine people of toy town made them. no toys are made here at all anymore, a few of the factories are abandoned, and i know atleast one is a spice factory or something. i worked in an old toy shop for awhile, it's a street hockey equipment factory now, which is kinda a toy i guess.
